This year's tea was disappointing in that few recipients and family members attended.
Thanks to Emily Marley and her mother Nora, and to Emma Warwinsky and Adam Warwinsky and their parents. Also attending were Sponsors from N.T. Callaway Real Estate, Holly Havens and from the Bank of Princeton, Wilson Weed and Mike Johnson. Mayor Dave DelVecchio also attended as well Carol Cruikshanks, Judy Henn, Ellen Pineno, Christyl Cusworth and Kevin Griffin.

Against by better instincts and accepting bad advice from grumpy auction attendees last year (who by the way didn't even show this year ) I regretfully asked Amy to play it down and show up sans costume.

She graciously acquiesced and as usual did a fine job of assisting the auctioneer. Although she looked quite lovely in her sparkly skirt, I did miss the Shad Queen and her side-kick runner, Clifford.

My humble apologies to Amy and Clifford. I will grovel and invite you back next year, full regalia. (If you will have us).

Artist: Pat Martin, Just Passing Through, Oil on board.

My paintings and drawings are about the process of creation and its endless possibilities. I try to merge or partner with a variety of materials and techniques to create my own visual language.

Born and educated in California, Pat Martin moved with her family to the New Hope area in the late 1960s. Since 1977, she has had many solo exhibitions and has participated in more than sixty group exhibitions, including the James A. Michener Art Museum, the Newark Museum, Ellerslie and the Noyes Museum.

Pat is a well loved local artist and is currently an instructor with the Robert Beck Academy here in Lambertville. Thanks Pat! Look for her on the Buck's County Elephant's Eye Studio Tour in mid May.

Famed Lambertville artist, friend, and good neighbor, Suzanne Douglass, has come through for the scholarship fund once again with perhaps one of her best works. Oil on board, 18 x 28" size.

A native of McDonald, Pennsylvania, Suzanne Douglass loved to draw as a child. Educated at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, she also studied with Frank Schoonover and Frank Delle Donne, both of the N.C. Wyeth, Howard Pyle school. Later, she studied with portrait painter, Margaret Yard Tyler at her school in Montclair, New Jersey and had an early, successful career as a commissioned portrait painter.

Michael McClintock of Artfull Eye Fine Art and Antiques, and Frame Shop has donated another vintage collectible art piece to this year's auction. (Couldn't fit it on a poster blank so we'll auction it alone).

Artist: Robert Bruce Moyer (1913-1969) was a painter and printmaker in New Hope, PA.
This is a hand-colored print, looking toward the Delaware at the old Martine's building and Farley's book shop c. 1930's. Beautifully graphic in excellent condition. Image area 9 x 12".

Carol is a member of the Artists' Gallery here in Lambertville and has been contributing poster art since the event began in the 1980's. John was recently written about in Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine, in an article about contemporary children’s portraiture. His work has also been reviewed in the New York Times. Prominent collectors include Kate White, author and editor-in-chief at Cosmopolitan, and Charles Cawley, former CEO at MBNA.

From 1984 to 1987 John studied with painter Neil Welliver (1929-2005), sculptor Robert Engman, and printmaker Hitoshi Nakazato (1936-2010) earning a BFA and MFA from the University of Pennsylvania.

John’s work has been exhibited at the James A. Michener Museum, Doylestown, PA; The Prince Street Gallery, New York, NY; Elan Fine Arts, Rockland, ME; Camden Falls Gallery, Camden, Me; The Quiet Life, Lambertville, NJ; and many other venues.

John is currently showing at the Quiet Life Gallery at Ferry and S. Main Streets here in Lambertville. It's a very inspiring show and portrays the beauty of our river towns with a fresh eye and a new hand. Thanks John for agreeing to create an original poster for us at the last minute. I am always in awe of the beautiful sunsets that are visible from the Lambertville-New Hope bridge and the area near Lewis Island. I was fortunate to capture one of those moments in this photo.

I saw Graham at the Giordano Studio on Coryell street late one night while I was walking my dog. He was on the floor in bad light intensely working on a piece. Gary was letting him use his studio. The next day I saw this wonderful painting leaning on the glass there. I needed to invite this artist to do a poster. Graham was flattered and excited to be involved and quickly said yes. What a great piece. A page from a storybook of past come to life.

Artist: Kathy Ann Finch, Free at Last, 17 x 11", Watercolor.

South of the Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead on the bike path is a pedestrian bridge that crosses over the spillway at Alexaukin Creek. An old stone train track support abutment still stands there and a Canada goose pair return to the same spot on top of it every year to nest. It is literally only a few feet away from where bikers and walkers pass and gawk at the unflappable pair, but just far enough away to be safe. This painting depicts that scene. Momma goose keeping an eye on her freshly hatched gosling.

After many years of viewing local art as a patron Roy started to paint in 2007 to fulfill a natural desire to capture the beauty here. Roy went from self study to working with talented artists like Myles Cavanaugh, Ty Hodanish, Alex Cohen and Trisha Vergis of the Robert Beck Studio. A Member of Artsbridge, The New Hope Art League and the Michener Museum.

“ I collect fragments of paper, ephemera, objects and segments of my own paintings. When I put the works together it is usually based on relationships that I see between the fragments. The process can sometimes feel like chaos but through drawing, painting, sanding, rolling and encaustic, they come together. It is the journey that I crave. The resulting work of art provides as Julian Levy once wrote “a persuasive, convincing new species, made from the irrational discovery of joining the utterly dissimilar”.

Stacie has been living, working, and creating these wonderfully fascinating works in the Bucks County area since 1980.

Myles was one of our first scholarship recipients in 1992, and has submitted this wonderful original painting called “Shad Fisherman”, depicting the familiar scene witnessed by anyone passing over the free bridge this time of year — a lonely boat adrift in the blue early morning light hoping for the catch of the day. Yes, that would be Shad.

Luiz won Best in Show last year for his stunning winter painting of Lewis Island, and First Place the year prior. We were thrilled to receive one of his portraits this year. Luiz seems to do everything amazingly well. Gentry is a friend of Luiz and was excited to see himself portrayed this way, against the backdrop of New Hope, PA, with the seining nets of Lewis Island. So we have a connection between last years and this. This is one of those paintings where the eyes follow you around the room.

W. Carl Burger is one of New Jersey's most decorated and beloved artists. Working notably in watercolors, Burger has emphasized the “garden in the Garden State”, presenting landscape and natural scenes with passion and exuberance.

A Professor of Fine Arts for 40 years at Kean University, he is now Professor Emeritus.

He has exhibited throughout the US, including Lincoln Center and the National Academy of Design in New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, the Newark Museum and Morris Museum, to which he gifted 62 paintings, and the Noyes Museum of Art.

His work can be seen at Coryell Gallery in Lambertville and the Riverbank Arts Gallery in Stockton.

"One early afternoon in Lambertville I noticed the shadows on this house that had an uncanny resemblance to fish — the Shad, of course!"

Rita studied watercolor at the Somerset Art Association and the Hunterdon Museum of Art and is a member of the Hunterdon Watercolor Society.

A lovely tranquil piece. There are many signs (besides in the river) that the shad are arriving.

Additionally, Anne is a faculty member of the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, the Hunterdon Museum of Art, and the Center for Contemporary Art.

Pursuing her love of art, Irma studied watercolors with Ron Lent. She is a full member of the Garden State Watercolor Society and helped found the Hunterdon County Watercolor Society. Irma is also a member of Artsbridge.

Irma participated in juried shows at the Coryell Gallery, "Best in Show", Garden State Watercolor Society, Phillips Mill, and Hunterdon Art Center as well as with Artsbridge. Award: The New Jersey Chapter of the American Artists League, First Place Award, NJ Senior Artist 2005.
