Henry the VIII I am!

Artist: W. Carl Burger, Henry the Eighth I Am. 11 x 17".  Ink and watercolor painted directly on to board.

W. Carl Burger is one of New Jersey's most decorated and beloved artists. Working notably in watercolors, Burger has emphasized the “garden in the Garden State”, presenting landscape and natural scenes with passion and exuberance.

A Professor of Fine Arts for 40 years at Kean University, he is now Professor Emeritus.

He has exhibited throughout the US, including Lincoln Center and the National Academy of Design in New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, the Newark Museum and Morris Museum, to which he gifted 62 paintings, and the Noyes Museum of Art.

His work can be seen at Coryell Gallery in Lambertville and the Riverbank Arts Gallery in Stockton.

James Feehan Donates Outstanding Original Piece.

Artist: James Feehan, Shad Revel, 18 x 28",  Oil and wax.

If I could live inside the brain of an artist it would be James Feehan's (the right side please). He puts you in a place of pure fantasy. I sometimes imagine life that way. And this painting portrays the shadfest in the way I imagine it in my head. The filtered light of the circus, c. 1935. Floating, flying, dreaming....characters of yesteryear, or today, playing their roles.

Doylestown and Ringoes artists.

Left, Artist: Betty Jacobsen, Outboard, 11 x 17",  Mixed Media. Carefully stitched in the corners to the poster board with red thread. Green and acid-free! It may be hard to see in the photo, but a simple house shape is impressed into the center of this piece.

'Outboard' is part of my current 'mom' series, a body of work exploring universal connections. I am represented by New Hope Sidetracks Art Gallery and I also teach advanced level art classes at Hunterdon Central High School. Betty lives in Doylestown.

Phil paints in watercolor, acrylics and oil. He is a member of the Hunterdon Watercolor Society, Somerset Art Association and associate member of the Garden State Watercolor Society. Phil hails from Ringoes, NJ.

Shad I be an artist? We say yes...

Left, Artist: William H. Tinsman, Bird in Hand (Hands Across the Water), 11 x 17", 1 of 6 prints from the original of acrylic on board. The original of this work is in an exhibit at school. He plans on studying dimensional design. Will went to New Hope/Solebury and is from Lumberville, PA.

Will impressed us with his sculptural works of art last spring and we awarded this first year student at Alfred University a shadfest Scholarship. He and his mother were very appreciative.

Right, Artist: Jacob Stephens, Dreaming, 17 x 11", Inkjet Print.

Jacob received a shadfest Scholarship last year and also the two prior years. Jacob attended South Hunterdon High School and is studying Graphic Design and Multimedia at Ramapo College.
During his interview last May Jake presented some very professional and beautifully executed examples of his work.

Artist: Rita Koch, Spawning Shadows on Union St., 11 x 17", Watercolor.

"One early afternoon in Lambertville I noticed the shadows on this house that had an uncanny resemblance to fish — the Shad, of course!"

Rita studied watercolor at the Somerset Art Association and the Hunterdon Museum of Art and is a member of the Hunterdon Watercolor Society.

A lovely tranquil piece. There are many signs (besides in the river) that the shad are arriving.
